Our Studio

Located at 33 S 6th Avenue, our studio occupies a historic building in the heart of the downtown Tucson arts district. The old Johnny Gibson Gym Equipment Company—Johnny Gibson was Mr. World 1950 and a wrought-iron sculpture of him still graces our front window—has been transformed into three teaching studios ranging in size from 850 SF to 1500 SF, a dedicated printmaking studio, a gallery, library, break room, and administrative offices.

Parking:

There is plenty of nearby parking. Getting familiar with the area will reveal lots of options. The Drawing Studio staff is happy to help you get here!

If you are concerned about lugging lots of supplies, we have two 15-minute parking spaces in front of the studio where you can park, unload your stuff in the studio, and then park your car. You can also unload in the small lot directly behind us and then move your car. Parking in this lot is reserved for TDS visitors and students with handicapped plates/placards and the front desk volunteer for the day.

Evening and weekend parking is free. In addition to street parking on all four streets surrounding us, there is a lot across the street (west of the studio), a lot on the east side of Arizona Avenue (the alley behind the studio), and a lot to the east of 5th Avenue, north of Broadway.

During the weekday, two-hour metered parking is available on Sixth Avenue, Broadway, Scott and Congress. Longer metered parking is available south of Broadway, including the Armory Park Senior Center (1.5 blocks south on 6th Avenue). Meters are $.50/hr. The Pennington Street Garage, 1.5 blocks north off of 6th Avenue on Scott Street, is $1.00/hr. Several parking lots/garages in the area are offering free parking for the first hour because of the construction going on around us.
