14th Annual Urban Picnic & Art Auction
A Benefit for Ballet Tucson
and The Drawing Studio
Sunday, April 10, 2011
11 am–3 pm La Encantada Shopping Center
2905 E. Skyline Drive
Art, dance, music, food and lunchboxes—it’s an unusual combination that adds up to an unforgettable and delightful afternoon. You are invited to experience the artistic flavors and textures of Urban Picnic 2011.
The event begins with a silent auction of juried artwork by some of the area’s top artists. Bid for your favorite pieces of art, enjoy mimosas and an al fresco picnic lunch. You can also take in a live performance by Ballet Tucson artists and enjoy musical entertainment.
The day culminates with a fun and energetic live auction for lunchboxes and other exceptional artwork. Selected local artists have been invited to submit original lunchbox creations. Aside from a handle and an opening, these vessels have nothing in common with the traditional lunchbox. From whimsical to elegant, each is a unique work of art.

"Secrets of Design"
Speaker: Mariana Carreras
Each element of design provides the artist with powerful tools to create a visual conversation. These elements are read and understood by the gut of the viewer and the unconscious nature of this response makes knowing how they work and how to manipulate them an important aspect of composing. This fascinating lecture will engage us in better understanding the elements and tools of design so they are secrets no more.

At noon, we will mount an impromptu exhibition at TDS, which will continue for the next week during regular gallery hours. Anyone of any age can draw, but we ask drawers to secure pledges (any amount small or large!) from friends and family similar to those for a walkathon. Proceeds will benefit our partnership with the Tucson Police Department’s Gang Outreach Unit. Special Bonus!
