On Saturday, August 29, from 8:30 AM – Noon, we want at least 100 artists, art students, art lovers to spread out over downtown Tucson and draw at 10+ sites to depict downtown life in all its vibrancy, contradiction, and complexity. At noon, we will mount an impromptu exhibition at TDS, which will continue for the next week during regular gallery hours. Anyone of any age can draw, but we ask drawers to secure pledges (any amount small or large!) from friends and family similar to those for a walkathon. Proceeds will benefit our partnership with the Tucson Police Department’s Gang Outreach Unit. Special Bonus! Anyone who works downtown can sign up for a free brownbag drawing class that will run Noon – 1pm, Aug. 31 – Sept. 4.
On Friday, September 11, from 3 – 9 pm, people from ages 9 to 90+ who are new to The Drawing Studio and/or to drawing will have the opportunity to participate in up to four short classes featuring some of the Teaching Artists of The Drawing Studio who teach Drawing Fundamentals. On Sunday, Oct. 4, we will hold a rummage sale at TDS that features art supplies, studio furniture and equipment, and art books. This is your chance to clean your studio and pass on those art-related goods you no longer use but are still in excellent condition. In addition, we need volunteers to accept, sort, price, and arrange goods prior to the sale and work two-hour shifts on the day of the sale.
